Re: what size socket to use?

Do you own the manual for your motor? Don't want to sound rude here but, if not, get one. The OMC manual is the best. Personally, I'm a manual nut. Literally hundreds and hundreds of questions can be answered by a little time with the book.....The motor is S.A.E., not metric. It probably took longer to log in than to try a couple sockets. Do you have a steering wheel type threaded puller? It's the only way you'll get the flywheel of without tearing it up. I believe the bolts for the flywheel are 1/4" 20's, use grade 8, stripping is a real risk if you don't. The insertion depth of the puller bolts on my 35 in 7/16, + or - zero. Have not had need to pull the flywheel on the 60. But I'm betting they are the same. KR

You don't say what horsepower, but it is probably a SAE 1-5/16. The 1-3/8 will work fine.

the bolts for the puller are larger on a 4 cylinder, but don't remember off the top of my head.

Re: what size socket to use?

the 4 cylinder is 90 hp
the problem is that these manuals are hard to find and half the time will show worthless information..I have the owners manual and maintenance manual..I just needed to find out what size because the nut is much bigger than even the nuts found on the end of axles for cars..which was suprising to me...I don't think getting if off will be a problem...going to sears to find the exact socket would be a bigger one..thanks for the reply though

Use a harmonic balancer to get that puppy off dont want to bang on it!
Some automotive store loan them out. I borrowed one to pull a steering wheel. I think it was this thread but someone mentioned to use high grade bolts on the puller. If you strip it out then your drilling and tapping.

And mark the flywheel and reinstall it as it came off.
