Hi all. I just brought a tinny with this motor and the sticker on the motor is gone ! Can anyone help me find the MODEL of it just by looking at it, Any help would will be great.

I have searched high and low, and downloaded every manual i could find. But i still don't know the model

It has the housing of the 9.9-18hp (From the pics in the PDFs that i have) and the prop is a 8.5 if hat helps.

Only the engine cover has been painted the rest is stock paint:)

The trottle cam looks like being a 9.9 model, 15 cam is much different in shape. 8.5 pitch is the standard prop for short shaft 9.9 & 15 models...

I've seen a lot of the 8s. That's definitely a 9.9 or 15. It may have been used on a heavy boat in the past, thus, needing the smaller prop.

Thanks Fellas for the reply's. I know its either 9.9 or 15hp and about 2002.

I have done some mods to the throttle cam to open it to 180 but haven't been able to take it for a test ;)

Still would like some more model info if we could find

Thanks Adam

Comparing to 9.9 & 15 D2 latest models can see 3 differences : uses small filter attached, CD is much bigger and the ignition coil position is completely different, probably 9.9 C model ?

Don't think that actual cam will work properly on all throttle range, 15 cam has a higher hill on extreme left side once entering wot zone, the 9.9 cam has nearly same curve in all it's shape. Would advice you swap cams to start with...

Thanks for the info mate.

I would love to just change the cam but i cant get one in Australia at all. I'm trying to get one sent over but not having any luck !!!

If anyone could take a pic of the 9.9 and 15hp cams side bye side with some measurements i could weld and grind it to shape... Alot of work but maybe the only way ill get one.
Thanks for all the input ppl.

The cam costs less than $40 in the US. Postage is a different issue, and will up your cost. Most US dealers will ship overseas.

But you need to identify the serial number. There are 2 different cams. 362637180M is for 9.9 D2 (or below) models with serials below 71413. 3M3637180M is for serials above 71412. See if you can find the 5-digit serial on the block -- maybe on a soft plug.
