I have a 1958 Glasscraft Citation with its original (i assume) Johnson Super Sea Horse 35. The question is: What size and type battery do i need? I of course will have to be able to run lights and plan to add a modest sound system at some point, I'm just unsure about the low CCA of starting batteries vs. the deep discharging abilities of the deep cycle marine batteries. I'd prefer not to spend anymore than i have to, but also understand that a marine battery is not necessarily something to skimp on...Just want something that will do all i ask it to, without putting 100 lbs. of battery on my little runabout. Also, this boat has (and i intend on using) electric start (made by johnson). Thanks in advance and sorry if my terminology needs work, this is my first marine endeavor.

Re: What size/type battery should i purchase?

Hello Skipper,

I have the same problem with my 33hp Johnson Seahorse, that was running smooth last year, after a complete tuneup, winter past. Now in this beginning of summer, it's very hard to start, the flywheel seems hard to turn with my actual battery. What I'll do is to hook another battery in parallel, this might give it more power at the same voltage.
Hope this discussion helped. Any hint ???

Non technical advice on batteries? I'd go with the biggest I could afford as long as it still fits in the area it needs to be in. No such thing as too much battery reserve on the water.
