I am going to install a Minn Kota Autopilot on my boat next weekend. I would like to have everything ready to go so when my fix it buddy gets here we don't have to stop and go get supplies.
What size wire do I need. My boat is a 21 center console and the batteries will be mounted in the console area, I figure I will need about 15-18' of wire for each side(pos/neg). I was thinking about going with 6 gauge marine grade wire. Is this ok or is it overkill???

Say 40' there and back (it's always more than you think):
40' of #6 would be good for up to 50A (~74lb thrust @24v)
40' of #8 would be good for up to 30A (~50lb thrust @24v)

Personally, I would go for #6 even if you do use a little trolling motor. It'll work better, longer.
