Also, note that the hanger brackets are designed to take a vertical load, not a sideways load. They need to be mounted vertical for the bracket to secure them properly.

How about flairs? I used one of the 3 pack marine flairs, and don't want to replace them with auto grade flairs. I think it has something to do with how far the flair burns down. Marine flairs are designed to be hand held, where auto flairs are designed to be left to burn to the end on the street. The instructions on the marine flairs I have say to "hold the flair over the side of the boat". I guess this is so no burning sulfur drips into the boat causing a fire. ;)

Actually, I mounted mine on a shelf so there is no load on the bracket

No, it'll pack to the side :)

I was also advised in my Power Squadron course, to just pick it up and shake it occasionally, just to make sure the 'stuff' in it hasn't settled, or even solidified.

My .02

Boat shaking it causes it to settle but people shaking it causes it to unsettle? I don't get it?
