Stopped by Lowes today to pick up another qt of Rustoleum Topside paint, but they were out of the color I want.

What other stores (Home Depot? Ace? Walmart?) carry this stuff?

I've seen it carried by Home Depot here in Canada. You could search their site maybe to see if it's stocked in the store near you.

Locally I've only seen it at Lowes.

Well, couldn't find another local retailer who carries Rustoleum Topside, nor did I wish to wait the unspecified amount of time it would take for the local Lowes to get more, so I picked up some Rustoleum "Professional Grade" to intermix with my Topside. According to MSDS, the only real difference is that Topside's oil base is "Stoddard solvent," which is simply a narrower subset of the hydrocarbons making up the "mineral spirits" that make up the base of the Pro Grade.

(I hadn't started painting yet beyond some test patches, and what I really wanted was to cut the quite dark Topside gloss battleship grey color with some semi-gloss white to make a "mostly gloss" lighter grey.)

They did intermix fine, a 1:1 ratio gave me exactly the color I want, and cutting with about 5% lacquer thinner it seems to self-level almost--though not quite--as well as the Topside alone did in testing.

Got mine from Ebay. Priced it everywhere, and even with shipping some random hardware store selling on Ebay had the best price.

Your local "Do-It-Best" brand hardware stores should also carry it.

Mine didn't carry it, but I went on the website and ordered it, and they shipped it free to the local store; the store called me when it came in.

No Do-it-Best or Menard's around here, only Lowe's (3 in driving distance, and only 1 carries it), Home Depot and Ace (and neither carries it at all here)

Funny, best price I found on EBAY (incl shipping) put the price per qt at twice what I'd have paid at local Lowe's.

And in any case, still couldn't wait, as I'd taken time off to paint, weather was agreeable, so I had to do something; thus buying what was available locally to intermix with what I already had.

Kinda ticks me off...last time I was at that Lowe's about a week ago, they had at least 6 qts of semi-gloss white, plus tons of other colors. Go back a week later all they have is a couple qts of green, 1 qt of red and 1 qt of oyster white. I thought most people used boats during summer, not painted them

Yeah, should have bought the white before, but had a change of mind regarding darkness of color and amount of boat I was going to cover. In the end I'd have been better off probably just buying a gallon of Pro Grade in light grey and cutting 10% with thinner.
