Hi guys,
We have a 1990 Yamaha 130ETXD and while on the water we experienced something strange. The engine would not rev up past 2000RPM and we could only go about 6mph. Sometimes when we pushed the throttle past the "sweet spot", it would choke and die. Initially sounded like an oil issue, but as far as we could tell, we had enough oil and the oil mechanism was doing it's job.
When we got back to the ramp, we noticed that the link cable for the magneto control linkage was disconnected, it seems the plastic link part broke, so the linkage was hanging loose.
That being said, I've been searching but was unable to find out what the motor would do when the linkage becomes unhooked. Does the symptoms seem to match? Seems like the timing might go out of whack and we'd lose power...but would we lose rpms?
Also, on a possibly unrelated note, we noticed that 2 of the 4 spark plugs were pretty loose, like less than finger tight loose! There was a gas/oil leak line coming out of the 2 spark plug holes. not sure if this would cause the slowdown we experienced? We did have a hard time starting up cold this morning, I'm assuming this might have had something to do with that...?
thanks in advance!!
