what temp range for temeratur gauge?

i have a 1998 merc force, and want to know what temp range i need for the gauge. do you guys suggest putting one in?<br /><br />i already ordered a 30 psi water pressure gauge. is that enough, or shoul d i add temp also?

I would install the pressure gauge and forget the temp gauge, as by the time you see it's overheating, it's too late. You should have an overheat alarm anyway. The pressure gauge will tell you how the water pump is performing.

thanks rick. thats what i thought. i didnt know if it was good to add the temp for a back up. after an 1800 rebuild, im really trying to find out everything i can.\<br /><br />i dont think i have an alarm, because it never went off, and i never hear anything when i started her up.

I also own a 1998 Force (90) and it DOES have a temperature alarm. You can test the alarm wiring by grounding the sender at the motor and you can test the sender by taking it out and heating it in hot oil and checking for continuity with an ohm meter at the designated temperature. In my case both tests proved that the alarm system was okay. You may want to check a good service manual to see what your situation is -- you could start with the wiring diagram.
