hello all again, ive a 35hp chrysler electric and pull start engine. the problem is i cant get it to start, now the solenide is gone in it, but ive tried jumping it by connecting the two termanls on the solenide, and there is movement just about it takes everything in it to do a full turn over.
ive tried the pull start but its really tough to get it to turn over too. any ideas what may be the problem?

Take out your spark plugs, ground them and try to pull start then, is it still hard to turn over? Have you checked what your compression is on your motor?
Doesn't sound good that it is hard to pull start, others here may have more information, but just try without plugs in first and make sure you ground the leads.
Could also be a bad starter motor, but I am concerned when you say it is hard to pull start.

1 My 1970 35hp chrysler pulls w/p 3-4 timer harder than my old (no easy spin) lawn mower. Which is not a bad pull in the boat, pulling with your arms while bushing with your leg
2. My Mag ign sys plugs d/n need to be grounded unless I am checking for fire.
3. With the plugs out it should be an easy pull vs w/plugs in and freewheel some vs a dead stop.

When you jumped the solenoid did you use the same size cable as to the starter, you may also have gotten a lot of voltage drop if you used a smaller jumper, as the starter pulls a high current. You haven't mentioned about your battery system, have you tested it to make sure you have a fully charged battery??

So I took out the plugs and it spins like it should, also it's a lot easier to pull start with the plugs out. I put the plugs back in and the same problem occurred. I used a plyers to connect the two termanels on the soleinide. The battery I'm using is one off my car. The battery is fairly new also. I've done some searching could the problem be my starter, worn brushens

I had a chrysler 35hp and it was also very hard, they seem to have a lot of compression, with a car battery i also needed to connect a jumper pack to the battery as well to get it to turn, they must pull a lot of amps, probably just need a decent rated marine battery or truck battery to turn it over.

Sounds like the starter to me, if you know how, disassemble it and check the brushes, and take a needle ir something else sharp and clean the grooves out between the copper commutator, the brushes ride on. As they wear they fill in these grooves and create a short, which makes the armature turn slower, and sounds exactly like your problem.

Most of the standard jumper cables aren't heavy enough to carry enough current for the starter motor to operate like it should. I've faced this on more than one occasion. The problem could be the starter itself, and it is very easy to clean or replace the brushes, make sure you have a good battery cables with good clean battery connections. A battery rated at a minimum of 550 CCA is sufficient.

1. I had approx 12?+ booster cables fabed from arc welding cables (great) until I loaned them and forgot to wait for them. At the bottom of a 100 yd ramp and forced to move due to traffic. I just knew the fellow would have left them at the marina. I moved on after 2-3 wks asking in the 70s LOL!

2. What is the history of the motor due my 35 hp Chrysler?s experience? My 35 has been nice to me when tuned properly. Do you feel the points are bad and throwing the timing to cause hard starting???

I've taken out the starter now I'm not too sure by looking at it if it's good or bad so I took some pictures

How are the brushes? where they ride on the right end of the first picture, clean up that copper surface with some fine sandpaper, not steel wool, and clean out all those cracks on that copper surface, if you can shine up the outsides of the armature and the shoes on the inside of the casing, put it back together and you should be set.
