What is the difference between a right hand turn prop and a left hand turn prop?

I have always wondered this and now I am asking lol

the direction that they turn to produce forward propulsion when viewed from rear. Clockwise for right hand and counter-clockwise for left hand.

The driveshaft that they are connected to, must turn in the appropriate direction.

Much the same concept as left and right hand machine threads if you're familiar with that.

If you search on ebay for "left hand propeller" you'll notice the difference.

Yes I notice the difference by looking at them but I am talking about preformance what is the difference...I mean can I run a left hand turn prop on my 1985 mercury blackmax 150 and it run the same or better as as my right hand turn prop

Your motor has to be designed to turn the left hand prop.
Performance will be the same but any torque steer or rotation related handling will be opposite.
Opposite rotation is used in twin installations to neutralize rotation related handling issues.

Was curious myself and besides the engine being made that way, you typically see a lt and rt set up when running two motors to offset torque steer.

thats what got me to ask this question because i just seen a offshore boat the other boat with a rt and lt setup on the motors...thanks for the help
