what the heck is this thing ?

sorry no pics.

im building an 07 bluewater 20 ish footer fish and ski.

in the bilge is a thing that says AIRMAX.....it is about the size of a hockey puck (just a little larger).

there is one thicker wire coming out of it..(looks like two in the wrap)

it is located at the very back of the bilge, about 2 ins from the drain hole.

it is not a bilge pump....it does not seem to be a blower as there are no hoses attached nor can i see where any might attach....(would be a really weird blower any how).

is this possibly a sniffer ?????....bad location for it....

any guesses?.........i googled air max but all i got was niki foot wear

1. Water sensor?
Measure the resistance then add some water and measure the resistance again.

2. Tru-hull deep transducer?
3. Freeze sensor?

Umm maybe its a bilge/livewell. Live wells have aerators in them sometimes.

AIRMAX makes depth sounder transducers. Many people silicone them to the hull and shoot through the hull.
Pictures would be more help.

PS: Maybe I am thinking Airmar.

Anyway, moving this to Boat topics, it doesn't sound like any engine or drive part I am aware of.

Willing to bet it is a thru-hull transducer. Does the boat have/did it have a depthfinder?

I agree that its most likely a transducer, but where's the picture? I'td be a lot easier to tell if we could see it.

the boat is a 'cane boat....so everything was stripped off.....sorry about the pics....or lack there of.......the owner does not want me to take pics of the boat.

i agree....this is most likely a transducer as i an fixing a place in the boat that someone cut thru the hull in the passenger area,.....the preivous owner was really weird....this boat has stuff put in the weirdest places.....

i found the joystick for remote lights under the dash of each side.......so to operate...the person had to reach under the dash and fiddle with his fingers in a really weird place just to even reach the joystick !.....the hole im fixing is in the upper cap....next to the windsheild of the passenger side.......a long way for the driver to look for the depth sounder....lol

One black, 1 white twisted, inside a stranded wire shield?
That says transducer. The other end should be at the helm, to plug into a depth/fish finder.

Yep, a "puck" style transducer for a depth gauge. I replaced the one in the Starcraft last summer.
