Excellent ideas all. I've decided to take a first step and send out my resume to the human resources department at USAIG, United States Aircraft Insurance Group, the largest aircraft insurance company in the country, if not the world.

That's a huge step for me. I'm going out of my element a bit and sticking my nose out, but we shall see.

I'm going to look elsewhere as well, of course.

Water sometime's life is so simple you will either laugh or cry, I do not know your companie's mgmt structure but i can tell you this, some where at the top some one is watching you and you will have to learn to kiss but all the way to the top. It may discuss you but it a very big part of success, this is a big world we live in and learning to adapt is a key element of survial, being good at your job is not enough.

Tell you next in line your bored, let you next in line he's a freind, and if your god enough at it you will win. Now if that sound's like it suk's so what do it, make a difference at every level and once your there......... it;s time for you let loose the dog's of war and bring your company to the next level and never forget where you came from........

I'll have to add to the butt kissing part too. When I got my current job I did the interview process a little different. At the end of the interview in my closing statement I told them- "I may not be the most educated, most experianced, and I may not be the one you think you want for the position. What I am though is the right person for the job. I'll work harder at giving you what you want and what the job not only requires but needs. I am the man for this position" I held true to that statement. I interview Monday for my former boss'es job.

Thanks for the continuing feedback. The management structure at my job is very small, there are us, the line guys, then my boss, then the owner of the company. The guy above me is the owners son, so it looks like I've gone as far as I can and need to get out.

I'm a firm believer that things happen for a reason. I had gotten passed up for a different promotion not long ago, and I sat down with my Boss for a couple of hours. I pretty much told him that I wanted to advance myself in the company and was willing to put in the work to do so. I asked him what I had to do to move up. He gave me some pointers, and also put me on a developement path.

Since I didnt get that other job, I now get the current opportunity that I have. ITs a better job, better pay, and better hours. Without "failing" on the first one, I wouldnt have improved and then gotten the current promotion.

Why yes me Bro, as a middle aged 'know it all' type, who had worked very independently in sales of securities for 22 years and reached a level of achievement, it would be difficult, (not impossible, but difficult), to work for someone else at my stage in life.

You: as a fairly long term small business owner may find the same situation, (if ya had to go find a job and work for someone else). Quite likely similar for you, but you know I can't read minds. JR

I have had some pretty good offers, but I enjoy the freedom of working when I want & really not having to answer to anyone.....But myself......​
