5 Miles out in the Irish Sea still hung over from the night before, nice fishing, weather okay and starting to feel okay again. Then somebody yelled, "What the **** is that still doing there".

Well I had forgotten to take the trailer board off the back end when we launched of the slipway..DOH! When I got back to the car the trailer plug was still in sutu with all the wires ripped out, and it had blown the fuses on my rear lights... Ha Ha!! once bitten twice as shy..

OK old chap, translation from English English to American English I think it goes something like this a trailer board in old Blighty pertains to a device that carries what you fellows would call the licence plate and tail lights and should preferebly be removed in all countries before launching..DOH!!!

Anybody guess what it is yet and tell me what its called your side of the pond..Regards Keith B...

Over here in the new world we actually attach the license plates and tail lights directly to the trailer frame, and Bob's your uncle, you're ready to go! And it's a jolly good thing, too, the last thing I need is one more bloody thing to remember!

Some lights are submersible; mine are high on the trailer guide-ons.

Tally ho!

Kiethyb probably has an old trailer. We also have that type of setup here but its becoming rare. It used to be popular on small (10ft)aluminiums with cheap trailers but now they are mostly transported on roof racks.

Don't knock it, they were a reasonable setup, fit in the back of the car and cheap to replace.

Aldo

And as if by magic there's a picture of one, and yes it,s a good thing they are cheap to relace as anything is submersible its just the issue as to whether the thing will work afterwards. Still no takers on American English term for the damn trailer board thing.

Cheers all.. Keith B..

That's only in New England; depending on what part of the country you're in, could be a thingamabob, watchamakallit, doohicky, thingy, or that thing with the lights.

Laters...

Boy, Texans must really be cheap... I mounted a 10" Plasma Monitor on each side of my trailer & connected it to a camera viewing the Yukon's tail lights. Works for brake lights, backup, whatever :D Am thinking of a maybe a second camera up in the cab so I can give tailgaters hand (& finger) signals :p

That's flashlight, singular, in South Texas, extra
credit if it actually works.

"But officer, it was working when I left the ramp."

And horse trailers are evidently not required to have tail lights after midnight on Saturday night. :D

If your going to try to say it sounds like one of us New Englanders, you have to type it properly. It should say,"Thaat damned trailah boahd thingy ovah theah!" But that is just a stereotype. :D

Thanks for the good laugh. I love the English English, and the Southun English, and the New England English. Now matter what ya'll talk funny.
Here in the Midwest, we all have our lights mounted on our trailers too. Mine aren't "Submersible" though. At least not while still plugged in. The fuses don't like it much. Went a week without brake lights once, and nobody would tell me. Now I check 'em regularly, more regularly that is.
And thanks Keith B, I do love the English English, with the different terms and all.

Re: What the **** is that still doing there ?.

On one of the night bass tournament I regularly fish, as it was getting close to weight-in time I got back to the ramp and fished the last few minutes there. Since I was so close to the dock, I didn't fire up the big motor and got to the dock with my trolling motor and proceeded to tied my boat to the dock and went got the trailer. I proceeded to put the boat on the trailer and as I was getting to the darn thing I heard a loud crashing noise. First thing that came to my mind was that the back end of the trailer broke due to the weight of the boat and started thinking how the h..ll am I gonna get the boat out. Throw in reverse and saw the foot pedal went overboard and into the water, I then realized I left the trolling motor down. The whole trolling motor assembly: mount, bracket, foot pedal, motor and everything were dangling on the side of the boat and submerged. The power plug was what kept everything from sinking to the bottom. By now I felt pretty stupid as there were another boat just pulled up to the ramp and witnessed the whole thing and got a good laugh. Lesson learned, when you're in the dark make sure you checked everything before unloading or loading the trailer
