I went to look at a preview for an estate auction tomorrow, and in the garage, there was an Evinrude hand controlled, bow mount trolling motor. I am possibly thinking about getting it, as a spare, to keep in the garage. I nabbed the model number, and although I can get the info from any Evinrude OB with the model #, I can't for trolling motors. What pound thrust is this, and approximate age. Thanks. The model # is EBHL4Y I think it said it was manufactured in hong kong.

It *may* be a 1988, but I am unsure.

According to the BRP Parts website, it is a 1988. It does not give the thrust.

It is a 1988 24 volt model, with a 42" shaft. I don't know the thrust, but you may want to PM member "HondaPower", as he answered a similar question recently...

My manual covers the newer models but does have a listing for a "BHL4". It is listed as a deck mounted hand controlled 12/24 Volt. Static thrust 43 Lbs, Max Amps 33, 6 Speeds + Jog (what ever that is) weight 26 pounds, Shaft Length 42". I assume that this is the listing for the late 90's model of the motor you are looking at. Hopefully most of the specs are the same.

I was thinking it was 12/24, as opposed to 24v, as it had 3 wires, a black, red, and white. Is that true? If so, we probably can go with the 43 pound assumption.
Thanks.

Re: What thrust is this Evinrude TM?

My last troller was a 12/24 and had 3 leads, my current is a straight 24 and only has 2, so I think your unit is a 12/24. My 12/24 was foot controlled and had a 12/24 switch on the foot control. The manual shows a toggle switch for 12/24 switching on the head of the hand controlled unit. If it's a 12/24 there should be a toggle switch on the head somewhere. Hope this helps.
