what to do about h2o in lower unit

I have a 1992 johnson gt 200 that is getting some water in the lower unit. I don't know what to check first? Any ideas would be helpful. thanks Luke

Pull prop and inspect seal for oil. If on oil is present the seal is probably ok.

Replace fill and Vent screw seals.

Proper testing for leaks requires a Vacuum test and Pressure test.

Drain and fill plugs are notorious for leaking, people don't always use new gaskets as recomended. Take prop off and inspect for fishing line wrapped up in the prop shaft, it can damage that seal. If your lucky just the fill plug gaskets are leaking, a complete seal kit isn't all that big of a deal , you can do it in an afternoon.
