Im ready to put the transom wood in and im useing PL poly for the bedding on the bottom and for the bond to the outer skin. I need to know if i need to glass the back of the wood that is going to touch the outer skin of the transom even though im using the PL Polyurethane for the bond between the wood and the outer skin of the transom? Im useing the Polyurethane for bedding to the hull and to bond it to the outer skin of the transom. After it cures im going to use roving to seal up the top and inside and also to the sides of the hull. Can i do this after the wood is bonded to the outer skin?? I have already bonded the transom together if you didnt know that. I kinda would like an answer soon as im doing this now! Here is some pics.

drill out the thru hulls you are going to keep and use the to bolt skin and wood together. you can go like you are.
please resize your picture, so we don't have to scan left to right to read.

I will do that but please do i have to glass before i bond it to the outer skin??? I am hoping that i can do all my glassing after i get the wood in! Am i correct? Thanks TD and hope you answer me soon! Im just wanting to get the wood in and im going to drill the holes where the motor mounts and use nuts and bolts for clamps there. But do i have to glass that part of the wood that touches the outer skin. I mean im going to use PL Poly adhesave. Please answer pretty soon and ill resize my pics as soon as a figure out how too. smear the back side of the wood like you were laying ceramic tile. then press it in to place and bolt, glass it later. thats how i do it. never any problems.

WAIT .....!!!! DREW....HOLD IT ...STOP....!!!!!

THE TRANSOM GOES ON THE PIONTY END !!!!

:D :D :D

tee hee ....looks great bud....

you can glass to the hull IF YOU WANT. with a layer of matt.....i did with mine.

but what you are truly looking for.....is a tight seal......you could even use pl if you wanted sperad with a notched trowel.....but the transom needs to be secure and flat against the inner hull...no air spaces.......

have atter bud.....looks like you did a great job on the trans

cheers

Now that's just mean, oops :)

No glass required when using PL... just spread it evenly with a notched trowel and go, make sure to wipe up the excess right away.

Also, use enough PL so you HAVE excess... you want a little to squirt out the sides.

Lets See it!
Just curious, did you apply resin to the wood before sticking it to the transom? I was just gonna do the end grains, then when the transom is in resin the inner side.

Got my halves together now too, just awaiting it to cure!
