Ok, I will not get them too hot, I would hate to cause any more damage to the head. I will try this later today, I did try to tighten the screw bit it didn't move on bit. I do use the engine in both salt and fresh water so the white gunk should be salt then.

It's both salt and aluminum oxide, and it's better than Loctite.
