The Javelin to me is a real "Class act". Not many motors are outright stunning and timeless 50 years after being made, but I think the Javelins are.

I'd like to find an oldrudder twin. They really get my prop spinning too. Vey cool looking.:D

Well here is the latest on the two 1956 30hp Johnson, including the Javelin.

I replaced all bearing, seals and gaskets on one powerhead. Waiting on the other power head to be bored out due to some scoring in the cylinders.

Today I got all the parts except the cowlings back from the body shop. Now if it ever warms up, I can start work on resealing the low units and rebuilding the leg, and mounting the powerheads. Then decals and tweaking. I'll be ready for spring.

I still am not sure what I will do with the extra 30HP. The Javelin is gonna be mine. But the other RD18 may go up for grabs.

Just wanted to let you know the work continues.

Just the starter and the electric choke for 12v. The ignition system does not require any power and is self sufficient.

Do you actually have to change the starter to go 12 volt?
I belong to a group of vintage Dodge and Plymouth owners, 30s and 40s cars.
They were originally 6Volt pos ground a number of people convert to 12 volt and the original 6 volt starters don't seem to mind....and in fact just spin a bit faster.
The electric choke should only need a ballast resistor in series.

How do these motors charge the battery....or do they?

You don't have to change the starter. They don't charge unless it has a generator kit, but that wasn't an option on these motors.
