Hey all, I'm going to look at an 81 Chrysler 85hp motor this weekend after finding out my 82 Johnson has a wrecked cylinder with broken rings I can't afford to fix. Owner has just bought a new Honda o/b and is selling this one for a good price. The lower leg is new and the compression is 150 on all cylinders, and comes with controls and tilt but no trim. What else besides water in the gearcase (milky oil) would you look for, I don't know about Chryslers?
Thanks.

Yeah he said I can come see it, it's set up to demo...I can pull a plug and look at the cylinder walls, too.

Check to make sure the drive shaft is ok. After I bought mine, I couldn't figure out why my motor wouldn't kick into gear, only to find out my drive shaft was broke in two. I dont think this has anything to do with Chryslers but trying to find a replacement is not cheap. I had to buy a whole new(used) lower unit. Set me back about $500

Good call on the driveshaft, apparently this one has a new lower section as of last year.
