I have a 14foot deep and wide on a sportsman trailer...I pulled the boat off the trailer to refurbish tje boat and noticed that the carpeted bunks were slowly but surley eating away at the boat...what should I put on the bunks to prevent this...mabie plain wood and just make sure the bolts are counter sunk?

Re: What to put on bunks

Do not use treated lumber. It does indeed eat away at metal (Both the boat, if aluminum, and potentially the trailer). I used just plain pine lumber. It usually only rots when it is kept wet, so I did not carpet the bunks. Instead I used bunk slides. You could use cedar or cypress. They are much better than pine at not rotting, but the pine bunks are cheap and were very easy to replace. I did it with a battery powered drill in the parking lot of a little used boat launch. I cut the bunks to length before I left home.
