what to use to seal wood seat frames?

In the process of redoing my seats on the boat. Removed the seat foam and vinyl well the plywood seat frames are shot. So after cutting out the peices what should i seal the wood with?

Epoxy paint over exterior plywood will last just make sure it is exterior

Put 2 coats of Min-Wax Urethane Spar Varnish on it (from Home Depot) and it will out-last you.

I had a '97 Bayliner with epoxy painted seat wood. It would hold water under the seats and rotted out the seat wood in 2 years. Replaced it using the urethane spar varnish on the new plywood, and it still looked like new 7 years later when I sold the boat.
