What to you check for maintance, Everytime you go out or every so often

What to you check for maintance, Everytime you go out or every so often to make sure you boat is running good and that all the fluids are full. Im a new boat owner and dont know what to check usally I just check the oil and power steering fluid.

The reason for my questions is because sometimes when I get water in the transom area and pump it out its a little bit cloudy, Not sure if its because its dirty down there or maybe a little oil leaked after a oil change 4 months ago. There was a little dirty pan that was left in there that got wet from the machanice.
Or is somthing important that I need to check leaking???

I check my oil before leaving my house. I also start the boat in the driveway everytime before leaving my house. I can come home from a day of boating leave the boat in the driveway to go out the next morning and I still check the oil as well as start the boat. I like to give my boat a good bath and a quick vac so that it is nice and clean for my day of fun. I know I did not say much but I think you are covering all of the basics. Good luck

before we hit the water, the usuall checks, gas oil, belts, fluids, every thing is were its supposed to be and tied down. (MAKE A LIST)
once engines are running usually check for water and or what ever else could be dripping in engine bay, also just listen for those noises that should not be there.

I always go pick the boat up from storage, start it in the driveway, run it till the thermostat opens and check all the fluids and make sure nothing is dripping.

One day, we were going to go out, i wasnt going to bring it home before we went out because i had started it the day before, started it up, just happened to open the engine cover and noticed a drip.

My quick drain fitting was dripping, reached down and moved the hose and it fell right off, the o ring was old and broken. Would have had a nice bilge full o water if i hadnt checked it.
