your transom looks like mind did. if you havent already gotten it out, you should find a spot where you can snake a thick strong wire through one of the holes, and use anything long (pry bar, shovel handle, etc) and pry it straight up. its not going to go willingly... they are usually swollen due to being waterlogged.

Jim, sorry but I did not go threw other threads to see how to take care of that piece of metal so I just bent it. Should have I guess.
By the time I got to that point, my head was splitting due to the drill falling
on me as I wiggled out from under the splash well. Came down and knocked out my front tooth. Now to find a surgin to remove the rest. Just call me hillbilly now. I look like the guy in Deliverance.
Doubt if I,ll get on the transom today but will head all advise from now on.lol

OUCH John been there got the tshirt :D. Well I guess you have the sweat, tears aaaaand blood into her now so she is your boat now . 3/4 of the people who have done these restos have bent the tabs up like you did the other 1/4 just trimmed them back . Then Jim came in and said hey wouldnt this be easier and look better when your done and we all went DOOOH :D. Mine were bent up at some point in her life so I know the transom has been done at least once . I will follow Jim's method and take a hammer and dolly to her while I have her opened up :D.

Ouch! mikastorm it looks like we all are getting injurys from these resto's.
That is probably the fastest way to get the transom out. I just didn't want to bend or cut mine. All though if you look at the pics of mine in the tips and tricks thread (http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=342521) my gunwales went all the way back over the wood and the rub rail channel was riveted right to the very end plus there were 4 screws I could not reach at the very top. Also check out this thread you will get a kick out of this one. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=343005

Thanks Jim. Wish I would have seen that first.lol
I,ll have to add my acc. to the injury list.
But first to get the remaining roots out.:(
Andy, I,ll try the wire trick and see if it works.
The transom is well rotted though.

This transom will not budge. ????
I snaked a heavy wire into the splash well holes and used a spud bar and 4x4
as leverage. First I lifted the boat off the trailer so I strapped it down.
Now I,m lifting the trailer up with it. Geez! Acks like it is still bolted in but know its not. May get some friends to help pry but man is that stuck.
The other boats I have done were not near as tight.
How about if I poured oil along the back?

you may have to take the splashwell out... :(

did you make sure to get all the screws out from the splashwell and also the channel where the bottom of the wood portion of the transom is?

i dont think oil would work, would just make a huge mess.

Ya, all screws out. What I think is going on is the wood is so swollen that in
the corners and on the bottom its got such a grip. May just start chiselling.:(

see if you can get a smaller pry bar or large screwdriver under the transom to wiggle it out a bit.
