what type of fuel pump

hello my iboat guys ineed a little help i found the pump i need part number 18-7278 fuel pump but they keep asking me with filter up or down,i took of the old pump with the part that look like a spring with a adjustment screw up does that meen the filter is up. anyone knows thanks.

Well it fits so many application you told me it was a 470 motor i have so i look it up and found the same fuel pump but when i want to order one it aske me with filter up or down. Part number for the fuel pump is 18-7278 maybe that will help you out. It fits motor 140, 165, 470, 485, 488, and 200 6cylinder. My boat is a 184mercruiser 4 cylinder.

Yes, i was looking up the parts for it they have an (old design) filter on top and a new design filter on bottom. If that screw that holds the little metal housing retainer is on the top with the pump on the motor it's the older design (filter on top) Pump is Merc part#86234 A4
