I just bought a used 1972 25 foot Bell Boy with an inboard V-8 engine. Can anybody tell me what type of engine this is? I need to buy parts for it but obviously need to know what I've got. Where do I look? Thanks for any help in advance.

Is the distributor in front, or in the back?

Are there any identifying stickers or marks on it?

Is there any serial number visible on the engine?

What's the hull number of the boat, if it has one?

Pictures would help. Of the engine, not the boat.

And pictures of the engine and drive are a good thing, especially in old boats.

The distributer is in the front. I am going to look by the starter to see if I can find the engine ID number. The number on the intake manifold is D1JE-9425-BA. That doesnt tell me the size of the motor. I have figured out that it is probably a ford engine though. Thanks for any help you can give me.

D1JE-9425-BA

Well it is no earlier than a 1971 intake.(most folks think that the first 2 digits indicate the year the part was was made when it is actually when the part was last modified, in other words you find the D1 on later model engines)

If you can put socket on the lower thermostat cover bolt it'll be a 351 if you have to put a wrench on it it'll be a 302:)
