I want to replace fluids in the intermediate, lower and upper housings. It says to use OMC hi vis gearcase lube, what is equal to this? and is the same used in all 3 parts of the sterndrive. How is the oil filled in the lower hosing? Read manual (seloc) but not sure is understanding it correctly.

The OMC factory service manual states that CRC HiVis lube is the direct replacement.I buy it from Napa. They had to order it.Many people use Mobile 1 GL-5 rated gear lube.Or you can use the Johnson gear lube from any Johnson-Rude dealer.
Is this a Cobra or Stringer drive?

I used the OMC oil for several years.
When I had the upper apart to replace seals & bearings, the tech showed me the new wear marks on the gears caused by me upping the hp from 260 to 300+.

He strongly recommended I switch to Merc Hi-Performance oil.
He was very knowledgeable and experienced on both OMC and Merc, I took his advice.

I use Pennsoil Hi-Vis Marine gear lube in my Stringer.

Make sure you use a "MARINE" gear lube as it has additives to help deal with water ingestion.

I used to use the OMC Hi Vis but my mechanic advised that I switch to the Merc Hi Performance gear lube (bluish green stuff) and that's what I've been using for the past 3 seasons or so, seems to work just fine.

I use good ol Wal-Mart Super Tech Marine lube. Never had a problem with using it. I might add that if your Stringer is an electric shift you need to get a certain type of lube for the lower.

The OMC mechanic I know told me to use the Bombardier full synthetic lube in all
of the stringer housings including the raise and lower gear box.
3rd season with no problems.
