Re: What Type Of Paint to get

For my little row boat I went to Home Depot and purchased porch/patio paint and rolled that over my skid no more that I applied to the interior. After one year it still looks like new.

It would be helpful to know what type of paint is there now. Assume that if it is the floor that an enamel or acrylic enamel was likely used. If you are painting over non-skid you will either have to sand it smooth or take a brush and clean it first with something like simple green or the like then with denatured alcohol to remove the residue. A good porch or deck enamel like Valspar (Lowes) will give good results but will have a little difficulty in holding the non-skid. Professionally you would use a two part urethane. The cheapest value is Industrial Imron which you can get at most automotive paint stores. It is a lot less expensive than Imron or Awlgrip etc and has superior durability. We use this product on boats for some of the theme parks. Either way pick up some Awlgriip non-skid particulate at West Marine and mix it in with the paint. You can roll it on but you need to constantly stir the pot to keep it suspended. Another alternative for flooring is a product called Gator Guard wkich is a roll on bed liner material.
Good Luck
