I am in the process of installing a Quick 600 ($500) on my 250DA. You need a horizontal type because the anchor locker on a boat this size doesn't allow enough drop for the more aesthetically pleasing vertical windlasses. Stay away from the deckmate types. They are only good for much smaller boats.

I have a Powerwinch 31 free-fall horizontal windlass on my 25 footer. With the properly sized wiring (PO used 14 GA wire, I switched to 6 GA) it's awesome. It tugs my boat along like it's in gear at idle.

The free-fall feature is great for quickly getting the anchor deployed without leaving the helm. Other windlasses I'm aware of don't have the feature at all, or require someone to go forward and manually disengage the clutch on the gypsy.
