What type of wood for stringers?

I cut all my rotted stringers out now, & I am wondering what type of wood to replace with. Originally they were 1" x 6" boards of some type. Should these boards be treated with something befor installation or just glassed in place. One more thing, I asked a local shop for a price on fiberglass mat & they told me they had 2 oz. & 3oz. for $3.00 a pound does that sound ok?
Thanks for all the help

Re: What type of wood for stringers?

I should mention that my stringers are about 12' long & they start out at a
1"x6" & part way to the bow they change to 1"x10 1/2" to support floor. I did check them & they were made out of 1 piece. I would gues they started out as a 1" X 12" piece of something. How do you find wood with no knots"
Thanks allot.

What type of wood for stringers?

Ayuh,... I use CDX Plywood,... Doubled 1/2" with a staggered joint will get you the 12'....

That Mat will be Fine,... But, you'll be needing some Cloth for Strength....

Thanks for the reply, Would you use construction adhesive to hold them together? Should they be wrapped in fiberglass before going on the hull?
Thanks,

That was a good read, I saw he talked about the hull shape being a concern while installing new stringers, is this a problem. Can you glass in more than 1 stringer a day? How well should the hull be sanded before hand, my hull is pretty rough I used a wire wheel to remove all the stuck foam particles.

You need to use a grinder with 36 or 24 grit sand paper to prep the surface.

Should the whole hull be re-glassed or just where the stringers attach?

It depends how much glass you grind out..
more often then not a repair will only require that the new strings be glassed in.
