I have been researching a little on these forums and others about insurance and I see alot of talk of 'the standard coverage' or 'just liability' but I wanted to see what exact coverages people had and why?

My current liability coverage right now is $25k/person,$50k/accident,$10k/property. Is $10k really enough liabillity coverage incase, heaven forbid, I hit a $100k yahct. What would you consider to be the 'standard' ammount of liability one should have??

I also have comprehensive and collision with a $500 deductible but for a 20' 91 bayliner capri cuddy is that really nessasary?
Does anyone have uninsured boaters insurance? my agent offered this to me as well..

The property damage isn't really the issue as well as the total loss. It's the personal liability that becomes the big #. Me personally thinks that if you use your boat for wakeboarding, skiing, tubing your insurance level should be all that you can afford given that these are notoriously high risk. Your 12' jon boat probably not so much risk, your 30' cruiser maybe more to property loss. Most accidents happen in the watersports world, and if that's your priority, I'd go no less than 100/300 personal liability. Look at what you have to lose as far as your home and assets, a personal injury claim can take that in a heartbeat. If you typically carry several individuals, multiply the potential liability accordingly.

My policy falls under my homeowners policy. Nice thing about that, aside from being cheap, I have pretty high liability coverage plus a blanket liability policy above that up to $3MM.

100/300 as required by my umbrella policy and then the boat and trailer are fully insured only costs about $200 a year.

No coverage here either.
Tried to get a quote from BoatUS when I first got her, but was denied due to 'insufficient experience with a vessel of similar size'.
Its a houseboat, and I keep it on a private mooring, so its unlikely that I'll get into too much trouble with it, but now that Im putting some money into it, I think I'll try adding the boat to my allstate policy.
