I'm looking for a vintage/old tach for my '66 boat. I have an '83 evinrude 115hp but really have no idea what tachs I can use. Presently I have no tach. I saw "alternator" tachs...???

Thanks

Your motor requires an alternator tach using 12 poles (6 pulses). No problem because the majority of all modern tachs do that.

This is the Airguide tach I remember, or one very similar: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Airguide-Tac...VXDm-B&vxp=mtr . Apologies to the Ebay seller for borrowing the info, but there is some good Airguide info hyperlinked in the item description -- might find it useful.

(Your post got me off looking out of curiousity, and stumbled on the ebay listing. Think I was assuming you might be looking at or run across some vintage Airguides).

Yes, if you get an alternator tach. If you buy the Airguide, I suspect it might not work on your motor. It says for CD ignition in the ad. They used different CD ignition back in those days. But not totally sure.

I had a 1959 boat with fins. Had the Airguide tach in it. Was a 2-pole tach and was connected to the 1976 75 hp short shaft engine. Somehow it worked just fine. I bought it that way and never had to hook it up, so don't know what goes to the two poles. Obviously, one is the signal. I do not believe that it had an adjustment screw on the back of the tach to set the # of alternator poles, but that was years ago..
