What was last year of 4-cylinder 44 cu in Merc 50 hp outboard ?

Hi to all,

What was the last year that Mercury produced the 4-cylinder 44 cubic inch 2-stroke 50 hp outboard motor ?

And did they ever overlap production of the older 4-cyl 50 hp with a newer design 3-cyl or 2-cyl 50 hp 2-stroke outboard ?

The 44 cu.in. was built in till 2005 as a 40HP, the 50,45 and 40 were all the same engine the 40 had a gear drive oil pump but other than that there was no difference

Thanks Laddies, I've sorta had my eye out for one of the older 4-cyls that has been taken care of, and I saw a local ad for a 1989 50 hp Merc, but when I called the owner he said it was a 2-cyl. Surprised me. I thought the 4-cyl 44 ci went at least to 1990. I've had a few of the 44 ci motors in years past and wished I hadn't gotten rid of all of them.

In 1989 Mercury built a 3cyl 49.8 cu.in 50HP that is no where close to the 44 in any kind of performance

Thanks Laddies, I didn't know when they started the 3-cyl models and what the hp was of the 3-cyls, but I've always heard to stay away from them. Many thanks again.
