1974 Plymouth Sebring. Very cool car, but with the slant 6 it was a dog. But unbelievably dependable. With an 8 it would have been far more interesting.

I had an aqua 1969 Ford Custom sedan with a 302 and 3 speed on the column. I painted big old "Keep on truckin'" men on it.

Re: What was your first car?

My first car was a 1981 Plymouth Horizon. I got it after my parents bet me they could find a car for $100, and succeeded. I got the car a couple of months before I turned 16, and then spent a couple of months of good quality father-son bonding time in the garage. The usual: some suspension items, brakes, wheel bearings, etc...
The car was about as spartan as they come. Crank the windows down to cool off, manual transmission, base single gerbil engine, no working radio (that quickly changed  ). You could clock it 0-60 with a calendar ;) . Passing on a two lane road only happened once, and that was an adventure  .

'31 Model A Sedan. Drove it in HS until I got a Hemi put in my my '32 ford Sedan. After HS I fixed up a '55 Ponatic HT; '57 injected engine, B & M Hydro - was fast! And a '55 Chev. Bus. Coupe that I raced 'A Gas' (funny cars today) for a few years. After that just what ever provided transportation; decided to go to college.

'71 Plymouth Duster, metalflake blue, 340 Six Pack w/4Sp, posi, Hurst Ram Rod, Crager Classic rims, line lock, glass hood, fenders, door skins & bumpers. 0-60 in 4 sec. 1/4 mile in 10.0 sec @115 MPH. Celebrated a lot of "Firsts" in that car. *wink* Sadly the frame rusted out and sat forgotten for years before it was bought and parted out. If only eh?

A 1951 Ford v8 flat head custom. I worked for my g'ma all summer, and did she work me. it had sat for about 20 years and it took me a while to get her going but it was a fun car. I Still have it just wait for the funds to revive it.

'67 Ford Mustang, saved up and bought it as a project car, had the original engine replaced by a '69 windsor (higer compression), but still had the junky FMX (?) transmission.

Broke a rocker arm and it sat until I sold it.

'36 Ford 4dr converible, '48 Mercury engine, dual smitty steelpacs, dual stromberg 97 carbs, Lincoln zephyr trans and columbia 2sp rear. My daddy bought it from a bootleger for me. Man that thing was fast for it's day. I was the happiest (and fastest) 15 y/0 in town. We could get a drivers license at 14 when I was a kid... full license.

1971 Olds Cutlass S it was a sweet car, kicking myself for selling it, then I got stuck with a 1979 Olds Cutlass Salon, it was the ugliest car I have ever seen it was a fake hatch back with no headliner just foam the only good thing about it was it had a 260 V8 it went pretty good. We named it the Grey Goose!

Re: What was your first car?

My first vehicle was a Kawaski 175. Ugly but it ran. Traded it for a Honda 350, looked better and ran faster but not very practical. Then to a Yamaha 400, then a Yamaha 750 Virago.

My first 4 wheeled vehicle was a Ford F250 crew cab pickup. It was a dark yellow and white beast.

Then I got a 1974 Ford Gran Torino Elite. That car took some abuse and still ran like a striped rear ape.

Sold that for a 1970 Mustang, then to a 75 Cougar.

Sometime in there I got my 1969 Cougar XR7 (my current restoration project).

From there an 82 Mustang, 88 Mustang, 94 Mustang then a Ford Windstar minivan.

My first car was one of these.

austin.jpg

An Austin 1100.
It had a transverse engine & the gearbox and engine used the same oil, it used to whine like a Banshee.
I was working in the navel dockyard in Plymouth at the time so when it came to needing a respray the only colour was battleship grey.
A real POS but at the time it was the best car on the road in my eyes.
