I've been shopping since a month now to buy a new boat and as the new law will force us to buy a catalyst engine with any new 2012 boat.

I was looking at the Four Winns H180 and the maximum HP is right now 190. With the new law, if you choose a 4.3 it will be either or 220 or 225HP.

Do you think that a model like the FW H180 will completly change for 2012 to receive the newer engines or they will not change drastically?

Thanks!

Re: What will happened for the 2012 boat market?

I dont have a clue about your question, but rule of thumb is buy during the winter when demand is low(er) , but to that end, ive been trying to observe trends in my area up to 500 miles or so around me, attempting, with a certain degree of luck, of finding the areas that seem to have "better" pricing, I started jan. Of this year, and have at least noticed a handfull of trends, regarding pricing and loa and hp... Im not ready to announce those lest being, at very least, wrong, but I would suggest watching these trends in your area and make your own determinations... I hope that wasnt a hijack, rereading what ive typed. But who says you have to buy brand new? The "drive it off the lot" depreciation is enough to make my head spin... Good luck! Im curious of other replys!

Four Winns is introducing new H(Horizon) series in 2012 and 2013. Smaller ones first then larger ones later? New 2012 H200 is out with completely new body and interior style that tail resemble their SL models with a huge swim platform?

Unless I'm mistaken, only engines mfg'ed after 2011 are required to be catted...? If that is true as I thought it was, its very likely that most if not all 2012 model year boats will still be non-cat.

It has been my experience and learning curve that a boat model year will have, at a minimum, the year before manufactured engine installed. Most likely the engine will be a 1-3 years old when installed. Boat manufacturers seem to buy in mass for pricing as not much changes with an engine anyway, and depending on how many boats they sell, determines which year engine you get.

Your milage may vary.......

Re: What will happened for the 2012 boat market?

Four Winns just introduced the New H 210 (was going to be H200, but Four Winns renamed the boat due to size and cost). The H series will be replaced over the next couple of years, but they are going to replace the H220, H240 & H260 next. The H 180 was "updated" last year to add an outboard option.

The days of boat manufacturers holding engine inventory are long gone. Engines/Drives are deliveried just in time for all boat manufacturers.

As for non Cat engines, They are all gone with the exception of the 4.3 fuel injected. Volvo had a few 8.1's in 2011, but all boats built after March/April were cat engines with the exception of the 4.3.

There will be some 4.3 for 2012 allowed by the EPA. It is a complex formula, but it based the product mix of Volvo and Mercrusier. They will than chose which boat manufacturers will recieve the non cat engines. If you want a non cat H180 (nice boat for the size), I would look at the outboard option.
