Curious how much I will save doing it myself. 1993 Mariner 115 hp 4 cyl. ==Run a compression check $?=== Replace the water pump $?=== Rebuild all 4 carbs and replace all small and large fuel lines $?=== Change oil in bottom end $?===Change spark plugs $? What would all this cost if I took it to a shop. Thanx for any help . Cooter

You can use any compresson tester, as long as you can place it in the spark plug hole. A basic compression tester will propably be less than $10.00. A new water pump wheel, $10.00. Spark plugs, around $3.00 a piece. Make sure that they are the right heat range though. Gear oil, $2.00.
While your at it, rebuild your fuel pump. Fuel pump diafram kit, $4.00.

Oh yeah, hoses. Take one hose off per size, and take them to an auto parts store. Get at least 5 foot of eack size you need. Around $2.00 a foot.
Anything else, just holla.

Hey greasemonkey , all that other stuff I think I can do , but I don't even know where the fuel pump is , and what is there to doing the rebuild on the fuel pump ? Thanx for the idea , this motor has sat for 4 years and only had about 75 hours on it when they parked the boat so I want to get everything in shape before I even start it . Thanx Again Cooter

Oh yeah, I forgot your carborators too. You dont have to buy a complete carb rebuild kit, just buy new floats and a gasket set. Floats will come with new pins and pin seats. Make sure to set your floats to the right settings they recomend. Thats all you really need to rebuild a carb, and it will save you money. 1 float, around $16.00. 1 Gasket set, $2.00 to $4.00.

OK, your motor has sat for a while. Its a good idea to really clean your fuel system with a fine tooth comb. Follow where the fuel line goes to from the tank. It will propably be a square looking thing mounted on your engine with hoses coming out of it. Thats your fuel pump. Take that off. Remember to see how it comes apart. Alot of mechanics dont know to do this, but look real closely on your engine where the fuel pump mounts to. Look for any tar or gummy looking stuff that could possibly be clogging a port of some kind. That fuel gets real nasty when it sets up for a long time.
Whenever you do your carbs, whenever its apart, spray that thing down with carb. cleaner. Spray every single port you can find. Another thing, whenever you replace your needle, make sure there is a perfect flow going through your fuel line through your needle seat. Just blow on it and air should be perfectly blowing through it. If it doesnt, CLEAN IT OUT. That little bitty needle is what makes your motor sing.
