Not sure about my earlier post of the '68 Ouachita w/ 33 HP Johnson, guy says it has electric start issues...I ran across another boat, a 1972 Terry bass boat, trailer, trolling motor and a 55 HP Johnson for $1700 is this a good deal? Everthing is solid and the motor cranks and runs fine but then will quit and the guy thinks its a fuel pump issue and has a new one on the way. Dicission's are killing me! I just want to get a good solid boat and motor.

i would go with the newer one the most the older boat have the chance of roted floor or transom unless recently redone. if you going to be doing fishing go with the bass boat.

Is that a good price for that boat? It looks clean as a whistle, one owner, trailer needs some work though and don't know about why the motor runs but then stops.

Oh yeah the difference between a '68 and '72 is really going to make a difference in the rot potential. Hoyt, SBL is a kid. Just ignore.

We need some more info and preferably some pictures. For starters, if the 55 Johnson is the same year as the boat then it is an electric model which you may want to avoid as a number of the parts associated with the shifting mechanism are no longer available. With your budget, I strongly recommend an aluminum hull. Your biggest concern on a fiberglass boat is going to be rot. A tinny would mostly eliminate that concern because even if the deck and transon are rotted, they aren't a major deal to replace.

Here is a pic.

Looks like a pretty decent fishing rig. That is a slightly newer than '72 Johnson so no worries about electric shift. Does that bow mount trolling motor come with it? Those are pricey and that's a nice addition.

The 1972 Terry bass boat is probably a nice choice however, I would say he is at least $700+ TOO HIGH based on the motor and year.

Depending on the area where you live will also make a huge price difference to me. Boats up north that are ONLY fresh water bring higher dollars since they have not been salt exposed and the "usage season" is much shorter. Boats down south are used more and normally beaten up by the sun......and have longer season's to be used.

I would low ball offer the guy and have cash in hand. Good luck......... BTW that motor looks like a 1976 so check the model number.

$1200 max, and I would start by offering $1000 cash and have it in hand. The motor will run then die could be more than a fuel pump? I would try to test run it on the muffs, if you can keep it running for a bit by squeezing the primer bulb just as it starts to die then it MIGHT be a fuel pump, if it dies anyway its probably more than a fuel pump and I would walk away.

Do a compression check on the motor. If the compression is good, anything else is fixable. Those are great little motors with good parts support.
