What would you do if you had this much to invest, play with, or other?

jkust, at the risk of sounding like the doom and gloom guy again, you would be better served having half of that $100k in gold and silver, in your safe.....

No, I can see where you are coming from. I know, I feel like I missed the gold run up by a mile. I have gotten to the point of being so conservative with money after my massive dot com losses years ago and more recent recession losses, I am almost paralyzed. I'm sure 100k is overkill but, it is a tiny % of our overall picture but all told I have more than 300k in extra cash sitting around which is silly considering i'm in my 30's and likely won't retire for 30 years. With the way the economy is going and our current situation in DC, I don't know what to do anymore. I went to college for finance and and my logic tells me one thing but my view of the country these days tells me something else.

Fact is, I have to do something for her B-day no matter what. With a bigger chunk I think I'd go big. I knew someone would call me on that . . . Doh!

That's the reply I was expecting............

Invest, invest, invest ...

The last 4 quarters have been records on the S&P. Things are looking good. Several years ago the average stock was trading for 40 times earnings, today it is trading at 14 times earnings. Profits have been solid, and the statement by Standard and Poor's that the US needed to control the debt or they would loose their credit rating was a good thing ... both sides are talking and they know action is needed. There is a lot of cheap money available for loans (some say this is driving up the price of oil ... borrowing cheaply to buy oil). Basically for the next 16 - 24 months the stock market looks like a good investment.

I am not a CFP and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn last night, so take what I say for what it is worth, but I am fully invested right now and it has been paying nicely.

The problem is if the american dollar collapses, I like aspeck's feeling good about things but I am not as sure about it as most. I agree with you that You and I missed the opportunity of a lifetime by not investing in Gold and Silver early enough but I invest as much as I can in the market......but I have a nice stash in my gun safe of gold and silver in case the market collapses. I don't have enough faith in the government to get the debt settled to reinvest my stash of precious metals into the stock market.

If the market and the dollar collapses, gold and silver will be the exchange of choice

I am so curious!
$500-$1000

$1000-$5000

$5000-$10000

$10000-$20000

and had no bills, a decent down on a house, or already own one, and any mix of above - :)

not sure how to make this a poll.

What have you saved for retirement so far?

I put $70K in a gold fund last June. Its up over 20% to date.
