Re: What would you do?

I have $600 in it. I bought it to change out my 25hp with the 50hp. The boat runs 18-19 mph with 25 so i figured I could deal with the boat as long as it went faster. Then another opportunity came so I bought a stratus 256v.

Now I need to sell the merc 50hp with or without old 14' bass boat and trailer. I also need to sell the 15'6" Aluminum deep v with 1992 Johnson 25hp to pay back some money I borrowed to get the stratus.

bummer :(

Look at the top of the carbs to see if there is a removeable plate with two screws. My 115 was acting like yours and there is a vent hole in the side of the carb that insects like to plug with crap. I removed the plates and blew out the crap with an air compressor and presto. Best idea for a starting fluid is transmission fluid it boosts compression lubricates and burns. Good Luck!

That's a great engine! Don't give up on it.

Go to CDI's site and download their ignition test procedures.

If you don't already have one, get a wiring diagram (Maxrules.com has those) and go over the wiring.

Once you get comfortable with the components and how they are wired together; everything gets easier.

If you have bad wiring it could be a break up under the flywheel where the wires connect to the trigger and stator. You'll need to pull the flywheel to see that.

Good Luck, Chuck

I plan on checking it out but won't put more money into it. I will just try to sell it boat and all for $500 if its not something fixed without cash

Re: What would you do?

Just to fill you guys in on the outcome. I told a guy he could have boat motor and trailer for $500 he said ok and then showed me where I had pinched a wire when putting the starter back on. So I only took really $150 loss.

Thanks for the help,
Ron
