First of all the jerk already has proved that he's inconsiderate and selfish but you don't know if he's also a fruitcake that might have a rifle in his truck or car. Best thing is to bight your tongue and load up after the bum is gone. You can live another day to tell the story. There are too many crazies in this world today so "turn the other cheek".

Hashi, were you waiting for someone to back your trailer in? Or were you solo? If you were solo it seems to me that you should have done exactly what the other person did, dock and go get your rig. Maybe I am not understanding the whole situation.

The natural queue to me is the rigs waiting line, always that way anywhere I go.

Well then, I'd probably let you cut in front of me.

Nothing worse than dying at the boat ramp cue.

No worries friend, I'd never cut line and gladly wave you ahead of me. It's used like a seatbelt. Just in case.

^Thanks V, back at you. In our neck of the woods, it's just as likely that the bonehead who cuts in line is packing.

Best advice at the boat ramp is to relax, be nice, and be prepared. Virtually all the iboats ramp threads lead me to believe that this advice is widely being ignored.

If I got a chance I would calmly let him know he cut in front of me but I've been trying to talk sense into people at boat ramps for years and it just doesn't work (I actually made a post about it recently). I very very rarely say anything anymore because I have decided the risk(possibly end up in a shouting match that will get you no where) to reward (very slim chance at possibly talking sense into them) is not worth it.

Re: What Would You Do

For exactly this reason ( I usually boat solo, ocean, fishing) I always arrive about 45 minutes to 1 hour before first light appears over the mountains, then launch and get away from the ramp area ASAP. I try to time my boat retrieval at a fairly inactive time of day which might not be doable at a lake ramp. I hate getting caught up in the crowds.

Remember, NOTHING reveals a lack of common sense or the ABUNDANCE of stupidity and rudeness like person operating a boat will. It's because of the freedom that a boat offers, the freedoms like no roads or signals, no etiquette training, and so many other areas that are totally free of structure and rules, that dummies reveal themselves so obviously. Airplanes and cars are different. They both have way more rules to operate by. With boats, dummies are just too free from the usual constraints of day to day life, and so free to do what they want even when their pea sized brains aren't even on and thinking, that they make TOTAL COMPLETE arses of themselves. Everyone reading this knows what I'm talking about.

I blame the parents of inconsiderates like that... They have never been taught the right thing to do, take your turn and be courteous to others.

I'll like to see a law passed that makes irresponsible and in-courteous acts punishable. And you should be allowed to take their personal details (rego numbers or anything that can identify them) and 'name and shame' them publicly...

This is where I am suppose to say that I would push the button on my dash that controls the tilt up 50 caliber gun mounted in my cabin for such occasions. :) I figure if these guys are in this much of a rush, it is better to have them in front of you so you can watch the stupidity in full view. Seriously, usually the ones that rush in front of you are the same idiots that go to pull out and forget to lock the latch for the winch. ;) A few extra minutes on the water never hurt my feelings.

That would be a great time to have one of my buddy's girl friend with us, while she is reading him the riot act we could be loading our boat and then we could just call her off.

Just another comment; I'm from the west coast of Florida and most of the ramps have at least two lanes and only charge $2.00 which they call a parking fee. Due to the ignorance of many boaters today and their love of alcoholic beverages stupidity runs rampant and many altercations ensue. Police are usually stationed at the ramps during the busy times to control this type of behavior but it still happens. I say maintain your cool and load you boat as soon as possible. By the way bring a camera because the ramp can be a very entertaining place.

Really sad to need a cop at the boat ramp... although my boat is at a private marina I carry any way.
