4836 - 1978 4hp. Great little engine that one.
512 - does not compute. 5512 - '56 5.5hp, 7512 -'53 7.5hp. That's all the x512x numbers I could find.

Re: what year are motors

Back in the '60s and 50s the Evinrude model numbers were combined into the beginning of the serial numbers. But I can't seem to make heads nor tails out of that one. Any hope of a picture?

There is no hidden meaning in the serial numbers. E000001 would have been the first 4836 made, E000002 the second. That is to say, they are indeed serial.

Re: what year are motors

GG18736A GG18736B and GG18736C are all 1961 Gale built 5hp engines. Gale was a division of OMC along with Johnson and Evinrude. I think that late model 5hp is very similair to the J/E 5.5hp engines. There's some info on the Gale 5hp variants here:
duckworksmagazine.com/03/r/columns/max/08/index.htm

Here's a 5.5hp site so you can compare:
www.outboard-boat-motor-repair.com/Johnson%20%205.5%20HP%20Seahorse%20Outboard%20Boat%20Motor/Evinrude%20Johnson%205.5%20HP%201954-1964%20Tune-Up%20Procedure.htm

I don't find E48RHCTA but I do find E48R[ACDEPSW]CTA. Either way it's an '83.

You can't delete your old posts, just leave them there for the archives. If you need, you can edit your old posts. Don't worry about leaving your model info up there, there are tonnes in the archives.
