What year is it

I Inherited a outboard (Johnson) and I have no information on the motor my brother told me he thinks its about a 1983 is there a way to tell a site that I can go to etc. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

We would need the model number to do you any good. Look on the transom bracket or on the powerhead for a small plug with numbers on it. An 83' Model should have the letters "CT" somewhere in the model number. Post whatever you find.

OK on the Transom bracket I found the Model # it is <br />J70ELCTE <br />what can you tell me about it thanks Bill

J = Johnson<br />70 = 70hp<br />E = Electric Start<br />L = 20 inch leg length (longshaft)<br />CT = '83 <br />E = Model run (I guess the Eth of that year)<br /><br />Model year works like this:<br />INTRODUCES<br />1234567890<br />So CT is 83.
