What year is my 20 HP

Hi everyone! I’ve been using this forum for awhile, but have never posted.
Yesterday I bought a 20 HP Mercury outboard. I’ve been searching everywhere but can’t find out what year it is. I was hoping someone on here could help me out. The serial number is 7142986. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

In the first post there is a Link 'What year is my mercury Outboard?' Click on that, and you will see a few links to choose from... You can fly solo from there

Hi there Gbilder Please know that it's always recommended to create a new topic of your own (with as much information as possible) to help keep confusion between conversations to a minimum.

Canadian type serial numbers are usually a bit more challenging to get right since the listed serial numbers only starts with the beginning numbers!! Not really giving a good estimate of a serial number range to choose from as seen to the left of the charts below....Plus your question is even more challenging as you forgot to mention the HP of your engine model in question so for now we can only guess you'll have a 20-HP too like Millers&Mercs....If so it looks like yours should be a 1974 engine year.
