I would like to know the year of my 40hp Mariner. serial # 6E9 L- 525078
Have been told it was made by Yamaha but there is a plate on the cowl cover that says genuine Mariner made in Ft.Worth Tx. I beleive they started being made by Yamaha in 1977. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: what year is my 40hp mariner?

I have narrowed down that it was made in japan. It is a 40 ELO model and the s# is 6E9 L- 425078 made a typo the first time. I beleive it to be between 1988 and 1994. Any insight out there?

Nobody seems to want to reply to these Qu. although I think for your engine there is a date if you trawl through the threads on here someone posted a link (but can't find where).
However mine still goes unanswered as there is no date listed for my engine; http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=344730 but will watch your thread for a positive responce.

I have a 40HP ELO 6E9 Mariner Serial # 424689 , but says "made in Japan"

iboat member "Laddies" told me that it was made in 1986.

It would seem yours is close as the serial numbers are pretty close.

The best place to look up parts I found has been DougRussel as they have online schematics for the twin carb 40 (not easy to find model).

Hi from the wet UK, your outboard is a Yamaha made one and was made between 1986 and early 1987.
