I purchased a 12 ft. aluminum boat which came with an Evinrude outboard motor 10 yrs. ago. I was told it was a 7 H.P. motor. I cannot find any corresponding numbers to match anything close to my serial numbers. I would appreciate any help to identify the year and Model of this motor. Serial number is: #5522-11977. Thank-you!

Thanks Admiral! That was very helpful. Now I know why my motor runs so poorly. I ran 50:1 oil/gas mixture instead of 24:1. Hope I didn't do permenant damage!

different gas mix won't make it run poorly just starve it for oil. Unless you have too much oil then it will foul the plugs. those are very good motors. If the coils have never been changed and the carb not cleaned that is more likely the cause of your running poorly.

Re: What year is my Evinrude motor?

Thanks for your input on my motor problem. When I first bought the Elgin aluminum 12 ft. boat & motor 10 years ago, it ran like a top. It so impressed a couple of my friends with its smooth power and ability to idle down to a very slow trolling speed, they have tried to buy it from me. I like it very much. I paid $400.00 for boat & motor. I have no idea what the real value is today's dollars. I won't sell it or the boat. With the correct fuel mixture, it wants to run, I just can't keep it running or than 3-4 seconds. I think the fuel pump is missing a spring. I took it apart and it only had one. It either broke, or I dropped one and didn't notice. I'm new at this website and mistakenly started 2 posts. I would like any info anyone has on the quality and reputation of the 1961 5.5 H.P. Evinrude motor and what they retail for today. Also, does anyone have an exploded view of the fuel pump?
