what year is my evinrude?

I have recently aquired a 9.5 hp evinrude model#<br />9422s serial# e04902. Can anyone tell me what year it is? It was in storage for 10 years. Being an outboard novice what should I do before trying to rum the motor?

It's 1964 model.I would recommend installing new sparkplugs and while you have them out spray a little two stroke oil in the cylinders and stroke the engine a few turns.Might also want to change the oil in the lower unit.Insure your fuel tank is clean with a fresh supply of 87 octane premix.

For what it's worth, your engine is also the equivilant of the Johnson MQ-10.BTW the oil mix is 24 to 1.

There is a sticker on the throttle that says to use a 50 to 1 mix. Is that right?

Mornin' gtcjohn,<br /><br />mine's a '66 (love it) and my book says 24:1.<br />Ought to consider replacing the water-pump/impeller before you take her out. It would be a shame to burn the ol' gal up over a maitainence issue.<br /><br />Plenty of parts stll available for these ol' motors. OMC changed recommended fuel mix to 50:1 for engines '64 and later.<br /><br />Earlier than '64 the recommendation stayed at 24:1.
