I knew the pontoon was a 1982 but was told the motor was a 1984 which didn't make sense. I tried to find out and even have the Johnson owners manual but there is no year listed in the manual.

oxbeast I was just curious. It doesn't charge the battery so after three months in the water I had to remove the battery and charge it on shore. I started the motor and then took the positive cable off and with a tester there was nothing coming back to the battery. I will have to look at it closer in the spring when it's uncovered. The manual says it has a 5 amp alternator. Also I am not getting responses back to my email inbox from iboats from this post?? I don't know why not.

Johnson part number 0581778 *RECTIFIER ASSY
is most likely what you need its what converts the
current from your motor and then recharges your battery
after it is converted . the part runs about 35 bucks u could
probably get an aftermarket one for less but i like using OEM
before u purchase it check you wires for good clean and tight connection and also for beaks in your wires.
usually they are damaged if the battery cables are put on wrong positive on negative and negative on positive but the can also short because of other reasons
