What year is my Merc 50

I've just bought a boat with a Merc 50 hp.. They tell me it's a mid 70's model but I want to be sure.. The serial # 7018511.. Is there a power trim/tilt unit available for this ??<br /><br />Another question is, I want to change the Mercontrol to a newer model shifter.. I have the metal handle type and I would like a newer model with the power trim/tilt switch on the shifter.. Is this possible, and what specs do I need to know about the new shifter ??<br /><br />Thanks,<br />tizfun

I believe you have a 1978 model. Many shifters available on E-Bay. There really are no specs to know other than is it made to work with a merc. It is easily possible once you find one. As for the T&T unit, I would get a CMC electric unit. They work well!
