What year is my Mercury?

I have a 25hp Mercury electric start. Serial nbr is 08334512. Do you know what year it is?

All I can tell you from your number is that it is an Aussie no, and it's later than 1985.<br />Could even be late 80's. Foreign (Outside USA) number listings are near impossible to find.<br />What does the cowling cover look like. Brown or Red Band ? or other?<br />I have an Aussie 81 s/n 8055895, and I've seen an '82 with a no 807*** The sales of Australian Mercs would not be anywhere near USA or Canada, so your 833**** seems much later.

I don't understand how I could have a motor from outside the states. I am in the middle of Indiana and purchased the motor locally used. Person I purchased it from said it was a 1988 or 1989. I will recheck the serial nbr and see what the color on the cover is. Will take a couple days to do. If I call my local Mercury dealer and give them the serial nbr will they be able to help? Thanks for your help.

I believe that most of the product sold by Mercury in the late 80's was designated OA followed by a series of numbers.<br /><br />TMD

The odds are pretty good that the 8 is a B. If that is the case, the engine is a 1988 25EL. A common mistake that I have seen is mistaking the 0B for a O8. Hope this helps!<br /><br />Happy boating!

Hi Everyone<br /><br />I got a chance to recheck the serial nbr on my outboard today. I guess the old eyes are not what they use to be. The 08 turned out to be OB. The serial nbr is 0B334512 and makes it a 1988 model. Thanks everyone for your help.
