What year is my Mercury?

its a 4 syl 40 hk.<br />The only number i can find is on the side:76540C.<br />i think its between 89 and 94.<br />Where do i find the serialnumber(if ths is wrong)

It's on the Transom bracket and would be 7 digits,]. The above no is not it. Do you have a picture of it ?

Also on the engine block will be a round silver plug, looks like a core plug. That will also have the serial number stamped on it. You're looking for 7 digits, or a letter and 6 digits.<br /><br />Chris...............
