I JUST PURCHASED A BOAT, MOTOR AND TRAILER....MY MOTOR HAS AN EVINRUDE COVER ON IT, BUT THE MODEL # IS J15ECEC AND TO MY UNDERSTANDING THAT WOULD INDICATE THAT IT IS A JOHNSON MOTOR? THE SERIAL # IS R08182624 IF THAT HELPS......COULD SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT YEAR MY MOTOR IS AND IS IT A JOHNSON OR EVINRUDE?

Re: WHAT YEAR IS MY MOTOR?

I MUST HAVE GIVEN THE MODEL # WRONG ...IT IS A 15 HORSE FOR SURE......THE MODEL # J15ECEC .....DOES THIS STILL MEAN IT IS A 1989 MODEL JHONSON?......IF SO WHY DOES IT HAVE AN EVIRUDE COVER?...AND WHAT RATIO SHOULD I MIX THE GAS AT ? THANKS JOE

Re: WHAT YEAR IS MY MOTOR?

Chad.... Sorry about the 115 typo. Your engine is indeed a 15hp, and the "J" in front of the model number indicates it is a "Johnson".

OMC's code is the word "INTRODUCES" whereas each letter stands for a number such as I=1, N=2, T=3, etc etc. The "CE" in the model number J15ECEC indicates the year of the engine is a 1989. The hood difference is probably due to being a hood that someone has substituted. The only difference between the Johnson and Evinrude is the color and decals.
